He was sent Maribyrnong, Victoria for Artillery Training 9.12.1916 – 2.2.1917.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Shropshire’ A9 for UK 11.5.1917.

Roll Unit 11th Reinforcement 10th Field Artillery Brigade.
Colebatch disembarked at Plymouth with the 10th Field Artillery Brigade 11th Reinforcement 19.7.1917. He marched in to Larkhill and reverted to Gunner at own request 19.7.1917. He proceeded overseas to France from Southampton 17.11.1917. Colebatch transferred to 3rd Army Australian Field Artillery 25.11.1917 He was wounded in action France in then possibly in the final stage of the advance on the Hindenburg Line 30.9.1918. He sustained gunshot wound to his left arm, resulting in a compound fracture to the ulna and radius. He was invalided to the UK, by Hospital Ship ‘Guildford Castle’ 4.10.1917. Colebatch was admitted to the Reading War Hospital 5.10.1918. He was listed for early return to Australia wounds to his left arm.
Embarked per ‘Karoola’ for Australia 13.12.1918.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 22.1.1918.
Discharged 11.5.1920.
Final Rank Gunner 9th Field Battery, 3rd Army Field Brigade.
Medical Condition Invalided with compound fracture to ulna and radius, result of gunshot wound in Field.
