Embarked Sydney per HMAT ‘Medic’ A7 for England 1.8.1917. Transferred to SS ‘Orita’ at Halifax Nova Scotia 21.9.1917.

Carter disembarked at Liverpool with the 16th Infantry Battalion 26th Reinforcement 13.10.1917. He marched in to the 14th Training Battalion at Codford 3.10.1917. From this base Carter was transferred to the No.4 Com. Depot 24.12.1917.
He was deemed unfit for service, with military records describing rheumatism and senility. Carter saw no active service in field. He was listed for return to Australia for early discharge.
